Established in 2003, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival is Scotland's largest mass participation running event, with over 35,000 runners and 100,000 spectators enjoying eleven different race distances over two days. From the 5k, held in the stunning Holyrood Park, to the one of the UK's fastest marathons, there's something for everyone.

Edinburgh Marathon
When: Sunday 25th May 2025, 10:00am
Registration Fee: £30
Minimum fundraising target: £600
Minimum age: Participants must be at least 18 years old on the date of the event.
Route: The Marathon route starts in the city centre and then heads out along the coast, passing through Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton. It then loops back and finishes at the Musselburgh Racecourse. The route is fast and flat, and has been described as one of the UK's fastest marathon.
Age minimum: Participants must be at least 17 years old on the day of the event
Route: The Edinburgh Half Marathon starts in the city centre and follows a scenic route along the coast, passing through Portobello, Musselburgh and Prestonpans, before finishing at the Pinkie Playing Fields in Musselburgh
Minimum age: Participants must be at least 15 years old on the date of the event
Route: The race follows the same route as the full marathon, but is split into four legs of approximately 6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 8 miles and 6.2 miles. Each leg has a different start and finish point, and the runners are transported by bus between them.
Age minimum: Participants must be at least 15 years old on the day of the event
Route: The EMF 10k offers a fast and flat course, ideal for runners of all abilities. It starts and finished at Holyrood Park and follows a scenic route around Arthur's Seat and Duddingston Loch
Minimum age: Participants must be at least 11 years old on the date of the event
Route: The EMF 5k starts and finishes in Holyrood Park, a scenic part in the heart of Edinburgh. the route is mostly flat and offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding hills.
