Send us your personal story

Share your story and help raise awareness of MS

There are 130,000 people living with MS in the UK today. But everyone’s experience of MS is different. Different symptoms. Different treatments. Different challenges.

This is the place for you to share YOUR story of MS: the good, the bad, and everything in between. Real stories from real people can give courage to others facing similar challenges, offer an insight into life with MS, and help raise awareness of a condition which is often misunderstood.

Whether you have MS yourself, know someone who has it, or are a health professional helping people with MS, we’d love to hear from you.

How to submit your story

If you'd like to share your experience of MS, please tell us your story in approximately 600 words. We welcome stories from anyone affected by MS, but we can't accept stories that are about other people unless you can supply evidence showing you have their permission to write about them.

We ask you to start your story with a short paragraph about who you are and your connection to MS, but the rest is up to you. Below are some ideas to help you get started, but remember it is YOUR story, so don't feel there are any right or wrong subjects.

  • Your diagnosis and how you dealt with it
  • How you have adapted to life with MS
  • What you do to manage your MS well (treatment, lifestyle, other)
  • How has it changed your outlook on life?
  • Any challenges you've faced and how you have overcome them
  • How you came into contact with the MS Trust and how the charity has supported you
  • What advice would you give to someone facing a similar situation?
  • Caring for someone with MS
  • Your experience of supporting a family member or friend with MS
  • You are a health professional working with people with MS

To share your experience of MS, please complete our share your story form or email your story to mystory@mstrust.org.uk.

If we need to make editorial changes to your story, we'll contact you before we publish it to make sure you are happy with what's being said.

We also ask that you include a high-res photo of the person telling the story, preferably a head and shoulders shot. Please feel free to include any other photos that are relevant to the story as well. If you would like to remain anonymous and not submit a photo of yourself, we will post a photo/avatar/caption that suits your story. If the photo you supply features anyone else, please seek the appropriate permission before sending it to us. All images will be used solely for the purpose they have been collected unless permitted/instructed otherwise.

Please note that due to the high number of personal stories we are sent, there is no guarantee that every story will appear on the website.

Sometimes we are approached by journalists looking for people to share their experience of MS in local or national media. This is a great way of raising awareness of MS and the work of the MS Trust. If you're happy for your story to be used in this way, please let us know when you send us your story. We will contact you in advance if your story is being used in the media.

Unfortunately the MS Trust is unable to answer your questions through the my story email inbox, if you do have questions about your MS, please contact our information helpline team either via email at ask@mstrust.org.uk or freephone 0800 032 38 39 or join us on Facebook.
