At the MS Trust we believe that everyone living with MS should have access to the support of the MS specialists they need.
Our research shows that eight out of ten people with MS live in areas where the availability of MS nurses falls short of the recommended amount. The result of this is that many people with multiple sclerosis can’t access the quality care and support they need.
The MS Trust Specialist Nurse Programme was developed to address this shortage and offers comprehensive support to participating MS teams, which includes:
- Funding for 80% of the first 15 months for a permanent MS specialist nurse position (subsequently, the NHS Trust assumes this cost).
- Access to accredited training via the MS Trust's MS Specialist foundation training.
- Mentorship for the appointed individual from our Specialist Nurse Programme Manager and/or an experienced MS nurse.
- Assistance for the entire MS team in enhancing and advancing their service.
In this video MS Trust funded MS nurse, Blessing, who works out of the Plymouth NHS Trust, discusses how the programme has supported her in her new role and how beneficial attending the MS Trust foundation module has been for her development.
