In 2023, the MS Trust were delighted to welcome Rachel Morrison as Scotland's first Advanced MS Champion. In this video Rachel tells us about the difference she is already making.
It's estimated that there are over 40,000 people living in the UK with advanced MS. This cohort of people often live with complex needs and require support from a number of different specialist teams.
The Advanced MS Champion role was developed by the MS Trust to focus on the care of people living with the unique and varied demands of advanced MS. A Champion's role is to help 'join the dots' between services to ensure the patient receives the care they need. They also support with symptom management, whilst easing the burden of care which often falls on family and friends. Most importantly they offer a level of hope and independence to the people they care for.
The Advanced MS Champion programme offers a comprehensive package to your team and includes funding of up to 80% of each Advanced MS Champion post for the first 15 months. Professional development, education and access to resources are all part of the support package offered by the MS Trust.
