ECTRIMS (The European Committee for Treatment and Research In Multiple Sclerosis) is an independent, non-profit organisation that encourages communication and the sharing of research among clinicians and scientists working in MS across Europe.
It was founded in the early 1980s by the Dutch neurologist Otto Holmes. Its goal is to improve basic and clinical research in MS to enhance clinical outcomes for the ultimate benefit of people affected by MS.
The ECTRIMS conference is the largest international conference devoted to research in multiple sclerosis. The first ECTRIMS congress was held in 1984. Meetings are held once a year with the venue rotating between European countries.
The equivalent organisation in North America is ACTRIMS.
