The PANORAMIC trial for Covid-19 treatment

23 December 2021

People with MS can now access treatment for Covid-19 if they have symptoms and a positive PCR test. You can read about this offer in our article about Covid-19 treatments for people with MS. You may have already received a letter and PCR test pack.

If you would like to have antiviral medication if you catch Covid-19 and become unwell, then you may also be able to access treatment through the PANORAMIC national study run by the University of Oxford. The first drug to be offered through this clinical trial is Lagevrio (molnupiravir). Lagevrio is given as a course of tablets that you take over several days. It reduces your risk of hospitalisation or death by 50% if you are in an at-risk category.

People at the highest risk from Covid-19 can get this treatment directly, but may still be able to join the clinical trial as well. If you fit the criteria below, you can take part:

  1. Have received a PCR positive test for COVID 19.
  2. Feel unwell with symptoms of COVID 19 that started in the last 5 days.
  3. Are aged 50+, or 18 49 years old with an underlying medical condition that can increase chance of having severe COVID 19.

For more information about how to take part, you can visit the PANORAMIC trial website.
