Multiple sclerosis is a lifelong condition which affects the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). In relapsing remitting MS (RRMS), new symptoms appear or become significantly worse for a period of time. This is known as a relapse. In between relapses are periods of remission where you may have no symptoms, or your symptoms are relatively stable.
