Yes. A baggage facility will be available before the race, open from 08:30am. It will be located on Museum Avenue near the Event Village in the Civic Centre. Runners can deposit one bag, which must display a baggage label (which is a tear-off strip on the bottom of your race number). Valuables are left at your own risk. No bag should be larger than a small backpack.
The minimum age for competitors is 17.
Avoid using headphones whilst running to limit the risk of injury to yourself and other participants. The Organiser will not be held responsible for incidents caused as a result of the use of headphones which inhibit the communication of important warnings or information from emergency services or course marshals.
Wheelchairs:
We welcome hand-propelled wheelchair competitors but want to make you aware of some of the challenging features of the course.
Inclines and declines: There is a long incline at 3 miles on Penarth Road at the point of the first water station and a significant clime at 12 miles on Fairoak Road for about 300 metres that previous participants have found difficult. At 3.6 miles after climbing Penarth Road there is a 290m sharp downhill immediately to a roundabout where you will take the right side of the roundabout.
Speed bumps: There are a number of speed bumps around the course, including: • Full width of the road speed bumps along Ninian Park Road (miles 1.2 miles to 1.6 miles) • Full width speed bumps and pairs of speed humps along Terra Nova Way to Penarth Marina (4 miles to 4.4 miles) • Full width of road speed bump just after Porth Teigr Roundabout (5.5miles) • A purpose built ramp with a non-slip surface at 5.7miles (there is a sharp turn on to this) • Full width speed bump on Albany Rd at Pelican Crossing (8.7 miles) • Full width speed bump on Ninian Park Road from 9 miles • Speed bumps around Roath Park Lake (between 10 and 12 miles) Other areas to be aware of: The event takes place on a closed public highway roads and there are the usual tyre undulations, pot holes, etc. While we do temporary repairs to the worst, there are some which our out of our control. In particular we want to highlight: • Road deterioration and undulations 100m after the start • 0.4 miles there are a number of sunken drain covers in the middle of the road • 0.6 miles a sunken drain to the left side of the course • 1.2 miles to 1.8 miles a number of minor potholes and deteriorations along centre of road • 2.6 miles a dropped manhole cover • 3.4 miles there are undulations in the road • 7 miles there is a sunken drain in the middle of the road • 7.2 miles there’s a drain to the left (racing line) • 7.6 miles there is a sunken drain and deterioration • 9.4 miles there’s a damaged drain to the left and a temporary tarmac ramp (this maybe removed before the event) • 10.2 miles there is some deterioration to the road and then a roundabout – you will need to hug the left (inside) of the course here as there is a crevice about 3.1m from the inside kerb. • Please note there may be other issues which may not have existed at the time of the surface inspection or maybe a level we believe is acceptable.
Disabled participants who need assistance:
We are happy to give a complimentary entry and a high-viz bib to a support runner, should you need one. If so, please contact maria.waldron@run4wales.org or ring 029 2166 0790. If you are taking part without a support runner, we recommend that you attach a safety flag to your wheelchair, above runners’ head height so that you can be seen within the crowds.
