Unite Students

2 August 2021

Sarah Scarce was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis during the pandemic in 2020. Sarah was supported by the MS Trust through our information services, she even used our information guides to explain her condition to her boss and colleagues. We asked Sarah and her colleagues at Unite Students to tell us about their fundraising journey.

Sarah explained that she and her colleagues at Unite Students decided to fundraise for the MS Trust after they learnt about her story and the condition. They wanted to fundraise at work because they have a close team between the Leeds and Sheffield offices, they explained that they love a challenge and that they're very competitive. Sarah and her colleagues set themselves the immense challenge of raising £1,500.00 by covering 1,500 miles over the month of June. After only a few weeks the team of about 83 runners had managed to complete the miles so they decided to up their target to 3,000 miles.

We asked Sarah and her colleagues how they found their fundraising?

We found the challenge really enjoyable!

Not only was it great fundraising for such a good cause but getting out and counting our miles in the middle of work days worked wonders for our mental health.

The whole team would say that it's brought us closer and it definitely was a very fun month. The hardest thing was counting our miles on Strava as it resets itself every week! That being said I would advise anyone to make sure that they have fun when they fundraise, whatever they do. Take lots of pictures, order lots of MS Trust t-shirts and enjoy it!

If the team at Unite Students has inspired you to do your own fundraiser please get in touch or download our fundraising guide!
