We were thrilled to hear from Theresa, whose daughters took part in Miles for MS to raise money for the MS Trust back in May. Here, Theresa shares how proud she is of all the Miles for MS fundraisers, especially her daughter’s 'No MSing Around' team!
“The MS Trust rolled out a challenge for the summer of 2020 called Miles for MS, which was a distance challenge you complete over the month of May to support people living with MS. This was a fun challenge to take part in, in which people could raise money by completing as many miles as possible during May. Each person had to raise £125 minimum in order to collect their medal.
Each person undertook their own personal challenge by setting their own mileage and fundraising goals. You could complete the miles in any way you like: running, walking, stair climbing, lengths of the garden etc. Miles were recorded on individual fundraising pages and each participant collected sponsorship to raise money for the MS Trust.
One of my daughters gathered a team of 16 young adults (including both my daughters) who all wanted to take part in the Miles for MS challenge. They are all affected by MS through friends, parents or partners and so were keen to raise lots of money. One of the team members herself even has MS and completed over 50 miles by counting her steps. The Team was called ‘No MSing Around’ and between them they raised over £4200 and completed 1133 miles. Each individual undertook their challenges in their own way (running, waking and cycling) and completed them independently over lockdown, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The MS Trust were really supportive and grateful throughout.
I myself have MS and personally know a lot of the team members. I would like to say how proud I am of all of them; their camaraderie and ambition to complete their miles was outstanding and they all succeeded in raising a huge amount for charity. To team 'No MSing Around' I wish to give you all an air hug and a big thank you!”
We would like to say a big thank you to Theresa for sharing her thoughts on this fundraiser and to everyone who got involved- the total raised from Miles for MS now stands at £90,000! If you would like to take part in the next Miles for MS, please email email@example.com.
