Myelin repair breakthrough
Repairing the damage to nerves caused by MS is possible, according to UK research, although the side effects of the particular drug used in the trial, bexarotene, mean that it is unsafe to be considered as a potential treatment

Progressive MS results encouraging
Masitinib showed 'positive signs' in progressive forms of multiple sclerosis according to a French study. EDSS scores increased less quickly and the time to 'first progression' was longer than for people on a placebo

Health changes before MS onset identified
People who go on to develop MS will start using health and mental health services more frequently in the 5 to 10 years before MS is recognised, according to Canadian research. This effects is called a prodrome.

US dental amalgam advice changed
The FDA, the US drug regulator, has reviewed its advice on dental amalgam fillings. Although they have found no evidence of danger from these fillings, and they don't recommend removal, they advise that certain groups, including people with pre-existing neurological disease should be offered alternative, non-mercury materials
