Number of people with MS recalculated
There are about 131,000 people with MS in the UK according to a new calculation published by Public Health England and the MS Society. The figures also show more people are being diagnosed each year than previously recognised.

Earlier treatment improves outcomes in children
Starting a disease modifying drug within two years of onset of MS in under 18 year olds was associated with a longer time to EDSS 4.0, according to a Danish study. There was no difference in relapse rate between people who started treatment earlier of later.

MSCT safe and effective
Mesenchymal stem cell transplant (MSCT) was safe and effective at slowing progression according to a Chinese review of previous studies in people with progressive MS. Injecting the cells intrathecally (into the spinal fluid) was more effective than injecting them into the blood

Risk of suicide higher following neurological diagnosis
People diagnosed with a neurological condition have a higher risk of suicide than the general population, particularly in the first few months after diagnosis, according to a Danish study that looked at records over a period of 37 years.

NICE approves Plegridy
NICE has approved Plegridy for use on the NHS in England. Although the drug has been used for the last five years it has not had a formal approval until now
